in the room over
Coleman’s first solo exhibition “in the room over” explores non-functionality and mental illness. Whether through materiality or process, she shifts and strips the intrinsic purpose from objects. Faulty and non-functional, they become personified so we can emotionally identify with their impaired sense of self.
The work speaks to and for the flawed, the fallen, and the mentally ill.
